For the last three summers, Wesleyan Animal Studies has hosted a lively group of scholars for six-weeks as Animals and Society (ASI)-Wesleyan Animal Studies (WAS) Fellows. At the end of the fellowship time this past summer, as the fellows were getting ready to scatter across the globe, there was a palpable desire for our conversations to continue and expand, hence this blog.
There is a lot of excitement within the academy about “animal studies” – new opportunities for teaching and learning and reading and writing are springing up; debates about the terrain of the new field are getting quite interesting; and new connections between disciplines are being forged.
We are hopeful that this space can be a site for discussion of all aspects of ideas that emerge in our various multi-disciplinary interspecies contact zones.
